Where Is Your Husband

Solo theatre at its best offers a glimpse into another life that feels immediate, intimate, and unmistakably real. “Where Is Your Husband,” written and performed by Anshita Koul, does exactly that. It is rich, powerful, and unexpectedly one of the funniest pieces of theatre I have seen this year.
Koul’s performance is emotionally driven but never indulgent. She uses comedy as both shield and scalpel, masking painful truths just long enough to let the laughter land before revealing the deeper wound beneath. The audience is never allowed to forget the emotional core of the work, even as they are laughing hard and often.
The show dives into resilience and self relationship with striking clarity. It moves through deeply personal terrain while opening into larger questions of fate, identity, and survival. This is storytelling that understands psychology and sociology without announcing either. The intelligence is embedded in the rhythm, the timing, and the restraint.
If a show can make you laugh and cry in the same breath, it is a triumph. If it can make you recognize yourself inside someone else’s story, it is a success. Koul manages both. Her comedy is dark but precise, sharp without cruelty, and rooted in the very real issues facing our generation.
The simplicity of the staging matters. A single microphone signals honesty and immediacy. You arrive expecting comedy and leave carrying something heavier and more lasting. The realism hits like a wake up call, especially for those who pride themselves on rationality.
Koul brings a rare affection for the art itself, an energy that cannot be manufactured or copied. She feels like a voice we will be hearing a lot more from, and it would not be surprising to see her commanding a much larger platform in the near future.
Highly recommended for theatre goers who want more than spectacle, for comedy lovers who appreciate depth, and for anyone willing to sit with a story that lingers long after the lights go down.
