Comical, convivial, and creatively jocular, Michael F. Toomey’s No Body Cares: America’s Favorite Healthcare System can be described as a cleverly off-beat comedy depicting the disparities and disjointness of America’s healthcare structure. It is told through quick-witted characterization, zany staging, exciting sound design, and wonderfully immersive anecdotes. Toomey’s supreme stage presence and excellent delivery of humor and heart won over his mesmerized audience throughout the entirety of the show.
I was most impressed with Toomey’s seamless ability to transition engagingly between the scope of his show’s labyrinth of comedic anthology. He was quirky, entrancing, and lovably farcical in his showmanship and theatrical ability. It is no wonder why he’s so naturally gifted, hailing from vigorous thespian training at Shakespeare and Company in Lenox, MA, as well as England’s London International School of Performing Arts. He currently presides over his own studio founded in New York City, the Humanist Project where he brings works like No Body Cares to life while also continuing theatre teaching and performing around the globe.
On a final note, I wanted to express my thanks to Toomey and his team for producing this show because it’s rare that I find such unique “out there” theatrical work that truly stuns me. I want to applaud Toomey for his bravery in producing theatre that is bold, untried, and new. “Refreshing” is the perfect adjective to utilize for this production and I am certainly looking forward to what Toomey will produce next in his future theatrical endeavors.
Michael F. Toomey in No Body Cares: America’s Favorite Healthcare System demonstrates that he is one of those artists who vividly embrace the sheer power and artful transcendence of humanity and our connectedness to one another which is what live theatre is all about. I am glad to see such zestful tenacity and creativity being brought to Theatre Row on 42nd St. I am also proud to be a small part in Toomey’s legacy of producing gallant artistry and carefree craft of thought-provoking, significant storytelling.
