Drugs, Sex, and the Good Old Life
Lost in Del Valle was directed by Amir Arison and written and performed by Ned Van Zandt. It offers a trip to Texas seen through the eyes of a struggling actor whose life isn't as glamorous as it might seem. The show is guaranteed to make you laugh through multiple characters who are funnier than ever. Van Zandt understands how his characters are the very people who make this story as funny as it is pure.
Some of the most striking aspects of this show aren't based on the dialogue, but the emotional journey of the audience who can feel the power of the story behind the performance. I would highly recommend this to friends and family. The vulnerability in this performance was a stellar move; I knew once Arison saw the script that blood, sweat, and tears were poured into the direction of this amazing solo piece.
The jokes within the script were not only funny but served the storytelling, proving that Van Zandt knew exactly how to weave his performance into the subtext of the humor. It makes for a truly fun night of theatre. I recommend this for the laughs, but also for the story of recovery—one that is sure to be remembered for a long time to come.
