“The safest and strongest queen is the one who rules alone.” That line alone could carry an entire evening, and in Tammy L. Meneghini’s hands, it nearly does.

Meneghini is completely at ease in Elizabeth’s skin. She guides the audience through a world of love, debauchery, betrayal, and rebellion with fearless energy and sharp intelligence. The performance is eccentric, hilarious, and unapologetically bold. She commands the stage like a ruler who knows her power and delights in wielding it. When she calls herself the “master of the horse,” you believe her.

The costumes are fabulous, but they never overshadow the work. Meneghini’s historical knowledge is evident, yet it is her storytelling that truly shines. She understands the weight of words and uses them deliberately. Certain phrases echo long after they are spoken, especially her reflections on solitude, strength, and unseen grief. Her meditation on Mary and the tortured soul beneath political rivalry is surprisingly tender.

What makes the performance sing is how naturally she weaves Shakespearean language into the piece. It feels less like quotation and more like possession, as if the words were written for her voice and timing alone.

This is a performance fueled by joy, intellect, and command. A must see for anyone who believes history can still feel dangerous, funny, and alive.
