This show lives somewhere between pure joy and open ended philosophical reflection, and Tom Cashman balances that line with remarkable ease. I could not stop laughing. I snorted, others snorted, and the room buzzed with the kind of laughter that comes from real connection rather than forced punchlines.
Expectations are always high for a solo comedy show. I want to laugh with clarity, not spend the evening analyzing why a joke works. Cashman delivers exactly that. “2 Truths, 1 Lie, and 17 Slight Exaggerations” is laugh out loud funny, almost dangerously so, while remaining deeply relevant to the human experience. The material lands because it feels lived in. From speedometers hovering at half illegal speeds to reflections on men’s health, the jokes feel familiar in the best way.
Cashman’s performance style is the secret weapon. He is highly engaging, confident, and playful, with an ability to turn nearly anything into something jaw dropping and hysterical. At times it feels so funny it should be illegal. Yet what lingers is not just the comedy, but the authenticity he brings to the stage. That honesty feels refreshing in the New York theatre scene and gives the show its staying power.
Coming from Australia, Cashman offers an outside perspective that sharpens the humor even more. His observations highlight what Americans accept as normal and how those same behaviors read elsewhere. The contrast between what counts as a slight exaggeration in America and what is simply the truth in Australia becomes one of the show’s smartest through lines.
This is a comedy experience built on soulful laughter and genuine joy. Not just a string of great jokes, but a reminder of how powerful humor can be when it reflects something true. Tom Cashman’s show deserves to be seen by everyone.
