Nadeen Gautier's one-woman show, Mami, What's Your 20?, is a captivating journey that immerses audiences into the life of a Nuyorican single mother striving to secure a brighter future for her family. Written and performed by Gautier under the direction of Leah Farrell, this Spanglish dramedy is both deeply personal and universally resonant.

Gautier's talent shines brightly on stage, drawing us into her world with enchanting energy. Through heartfelt storytelling, she takes us on a rollercoaster of emotions, from laughter to tears, leaving us deeply moved. Her journey to become a truck driver took work, and after multiple attempts, she succeeded! Her portrayal of a determined woman navigating life's challenges is inspiring and real.

The show's narrative is nostalgic, as Gautier reflects on the influential women who have shaped her path. Her abuelita (grandma) takes on the role of parental figure, motivator and rock. She teaches Gautier the power of believing in herself, getting good health insurance, and—most importantly—having good credit! Amidst the adversities and triumphs, Mami, What's Your 20? celebrates resilience and family bonds.

Gautier's performance is energetic, ranging from humorous to somber and reflective moments. She manages the different beats effortlessly. Additionally, the blend of English and Spanish dialogue is authentic to Gautier's experience and worked superbly. One cannot overlook the impressive choreography and musical interludes woven throughout the performance. The dancing and singing moments enhance the emotional impact, leaving a lasting impression.

Nadeen Gautier's Mami, What's Your 20? is a must-see theatrical gem. Yani Perez, M.F.A, is a poet, playwright, translator, and educator. Her plays have been presented in various theaters in the United States such as La Mama and Yale University as well as internationally in Bogotá, Colombia. She works at IATI Theater, one of the oldest Latinx theaters in NYC. She is currently working on translations of Latinx artists in hopes of introducing them to English-speaking audiences.
