Multi-talented, Platinum-selling performer Lionel Cole and The Cole Legacy band brought their energy and musical talents to 54 Below this holiday season. Cole's many accolades include over 300 original works and performances with Mariah Carey and Joss Stone. He has produced numerous television and film compositions.
The show included stories from his time in the music industry, growing up in the iconic Cole family, and his spin on popular songs. Cole, true to his nickname, the "Kilted Crooner," enters the stage with a festive red kilt. Cole, along with the Cole Legacy Band that included John Chin on piano, Elias Bailey on bass, Sean Moran on guitar, Tony Addison on drums and special guest Mike McGinnis on woodwinds, delivered a soulful evening of holiday glee.
Cole's performance is smooth with a Jazz style, a blues delivery, and elegant precision. He engages with the audience throughout the show, making the evening personal and memorable. One of my favorite moments included the section "Celebrate Your Life." The energy was high, and the message was perfect for the coming new year. Let us all celebrate!

Yani Perez, M.F.A, is a poet, playwright, translator, and educator. Her plays have been presented in various theaters in the United States such as La Mama and Yale University as well as internationally in Bogotá, Colombia. She works at IATI Theater, one of the oldest Latinx theaters in NYC. She is currently working on translations of Latinx artists in hopes of introducing them to English-speaking audiences.
