What if moving forward meant losing what you love? Through toys, humor, and fairytale tropes, “Eulalia: A Bedtime Story,” produced by the Pretty Bird Theater Company, tells the tragic, true story of a Spanish princess’ struggle for freedom. This one-woman show, written and performed by Sarah Cuneo, will run for five performances, October 12-22, 2018 as part of the 2018 New York International Fringe Festival. “Eulalia: A Bedtime Story” is a play about motherhood, authenticity, and sacrifice. Above all, it’s a play about a woman: a real woman who lived, suffered, and fought fiercely for joy. Eulalia was a brilliant mind many decades ahead of her time, but her story has been all but lost to history. This show explores the reality that life isn’t a fairytale, and sometimes the princess has to save herself. Sarah Cuneo (writer, Eulalia) originally created “Eulalia: A Bedtime Story” as a thesis project at the Case Western Reserve University/Cleveland Play House MFA Acting Program. Sarah has appeared at the Cleveland Play House in “The Diary of Anne Frank,” “Shakespeare in Love,” and the world premiere of Quiara Alegría Hudes’ “The Good Peaches.” Selected New York Credits include “The Concrete Wall” (Samuel French OOB) and “A Cordial Invitation” (Planet Connections). Brad Wilson (director) is a multidisciplinary artist dedicated to creating vital, courageous, and inclusive new work. He has directed at the Princeton Summer Theater, the Lewis Center for the Arts, the Brown / Trinity Playwright’s Lab and the First Look Festival. He has been a company member at the Theater at Monmouth and the Bread Loaf School of English, and has acted professionally at the HERE Arts Center in New York and with Interrobang, 16th Street, and Three Crows in Chicago, and Trinity Repertory Company and Brown/Trinity in Providence, where he received an Emerging Artist Award (“We Go Round and Round”) and a BroadwayWorld Best Actor in a Musical award (“Side Show”). He holds an MFA from the Brown University / Trinity Rep Program in Acting, where he was the recipient of the David Wickham Memorial Playwriting Prize.
