Ali Harper caught up with All About Solo at the 9th Annual United Solo Theatre Festival Closing Gala to talk about the success of her show, “Songs For Nobodies,” which won Best One‑Woman Show at the festival. Harper commented that solo performance is “all about storytelling” and that “its realistic to have longevity in this career when you have a one‑woman show. There’s breath, there’s emotion, and humor.” Ali Harper is an actor, singer, writer, producer, and acting/singing coach. She is a two-time recipient of the United Solo Awards, including: Best Actress in 2014 and Best One‑Woman Show in 2018. A career spanning 25 years, Ali has starred in numerous musicals and plays throughout New Zealand. Many highlights include “Mary Poppins,” “Blood Brothers,” “Mamma Mia,” “Legally Blonde,” “My Fair Lady,” “The Sound of Music,” “Guys and Dolls,” “South Pacific,” “A Shortcut to Happiness,” “Side by Side” by Sondheim, “Jacques Brel is alive and well and living in Paris,” “Jerry’s Girls,” “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Tell Me on a Sunday.” This year Ali performed her cabaret show “A Down Under Diva!” in New York at Don’t Tell Mama and at The Metropolitan Room in 2013 and 2014. Pat McAndrew is a NYC-based actor, writer, and consultant. As an actor, he has performed Off-Broadway, Off-Off Broadway, and in various locations throughout New York City, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. His one‑man show, REEL, was performed in the 2017 United Solo Theatre Festival and featured in the new documentary, Electronic Crack. Using his background as an actor as his foundation, Pat consults with individuals and organizations on how to communicate effectively and build deep, meaningful relationships in the digital age. He is the Founder of The Low Tech Trek, an organization devoted to discovering a better balance between human interaction and how we use technology.
