A Christmas Carol

Guy Masterson in A Christmas Carol.

Guy Masterson is a British-born actor, director and producer of 40 years. He recently directed The Shark is Broken on Broadway. He is a three-time Olivier nominee. Masterson is known for his solo performances of British Classics such as Under Milk Wood and Animal Farm. He makes his New York City debut with the classic by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol, at SoHo Playhouse.

Masterson is a pro! It takes great skill to portray all the characters in this traditional Christmas tale and Masterson delivers. His performance holds the audience's attention without the aid of props or a fancy set. The show is a bare-bones production that requires an experienced actor to capture the words and nuances of Dickens' work. Masterson does this and more!

The direction and adaption by Nick Hennegan work well for the solo genre. The show flows seamlessly from scene to scene. The lighting and sound design, although minimal, enhanced Masterson's performance.

If you'd like to watch great acting and an old-time favorite, try to catch A Christmas Carol this season.

A Christmas Carol is playing at the SoHo Playhouse until December 30.
